{"id":567,"date":"2018-01-24T10:38:14","date_gmt":"2018-01-24T10:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filha.fi\/news\/mitu-karkihankkeen-uutiset\/"},"modified":"2019-06-13T10:57:48","modified_gmt":"2019-06-13T07:57:48","slug":"mitu-karkihankkeen-uutiset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filha.fi\/en\/mitu-karkihankkeen-uutiset\/","title":{"rendered":"MITU-k\u00e4rkihankkeen uutiset"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The first year of the project is behind us and we have started to stop smoking for people with mental health and substance abuse problems all over Finland. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">In the hospital districts involved, a change has taken place, among others. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">in that the smoking of a mental patient is recorded and a nicotine addiction test is given and guidance is given to quit smoking.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">There are individual differences in the intensity of nicotine addiction among smokers, but for many, the addictiveness of nicotine comes as a surprise. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Closing is not a matter of course, and it may not be possible without support, such as nicotine replacement therapy and \/ or peer support. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">With the project, the perception that mental health and substance abuse people also want to quit smoking has strengthened. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The diversity of addiction has also surprised the medical staff and training has focused on the nature of addiction and the fact that cessation can be really challenging.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Regional smoke-free working groups have been considering ways to stop smoking for mentally ill patients who could be introduced in their hospital. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Named regional workers act as change agents and Filha supports them in this work.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">New forms of training are being tested. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">At the end of last year, the first joint day was held in Pori for patients and staff to share information and discuss smoking cessation and reduction. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Reducing is a good start in itself as regards smoking.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The second year of operation of the MITU project started in early January with regional training rounds. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">About 550 health professionals have been trained so far. In March, an online course is being introduced alongside traditional training, which is used nationwide for all healthcare professionals. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The course can be completed on your own schedule.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The MITU project has developed a model of training on peer-to-peer smoking practices. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Nearly 100 trainers have been trained and training continues. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The task of smoke-free swimmers is to work alongside a health care professional to support a mentally ill and intoxicant patient to smoke-free.<\/span><\/span><a title=\"MITU - Supporting Cessation of Smoking with Mental Health and Substance Abuse (Top Project) 2017-2018\" href=\"http:\/\/www.filha.fi\/fi\/hankkeet\/mitu-mielenterveys-ja-paihdeongelmista-karsivien-tupakoinnin-lopettamisen-tukeminen\" name=\"MITU - Mielenterveys- ja p\u00e4ihdeongelmista k\u00e4rsivien tupakoinnin lopettamisen tukeminen (k\u00e4rkihanke) 2017-2018\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first year of the project is behind us and we have started to stop smoking for people with mental health and substance abuse problems all over Finland.
