Allergian taakka on keventynyt − Kansallinen allergiaohjelma 2008−2018 päättyy

The main objectives of the National Allergy Program have been to strengthen the population’s reduced tolerance and to reduce the avoidance of unnecessary and certainty allergens. “Avoiding allergens in severe allergies is important, but there must be just and precise justification for avoiding it,” says Prof. Erkka Valovirta, Ph.D. Avoidance of allergens is agreed individually in health care, both quantitatively and temporally. Resources are concentrated in healthcare for the treatment of severe allergies and the prevention of relapses caused by allergies.

Treatment costs began to decline and good development continues
The cost of treating asthma and allergy began to decrease in the first five years of the program. Emergency Emergency First Aid and Hospital Needs Halved. Occupational allergies, such as recognized occupational diseases, decreased by 40%. Professor Erkka Valovirta points out that inappropriate and unnecessary allergy diets for children have also decreased in many places by 50% and in some cases by over 70%. This means lower costs for society, but it also affects the lives of many children, the family as well as adults. Here’s the big work done by the food service and the nurses, says Light Flux.

Half of patients experience better coping with allergies and asthma
. In 2018, more than half of patients feel better able to cope with allergies and asthma, and some of the families with allergies also dare to get a pet. Just over half of the patients experience a reduction in food allergies. Avoiding food for safety or mild symptoms has been significantly reduced. On the other hand, some of the patients, about 16%, have become more sensitive to food allergies.

“The allergy program has only just begun to change, ” says Emeritus Professor Tari Haahtela. Diagnostics and treatment have developed and allergy hampers less work and performance. However, there is really a lot of people suffering from allergies, for example, in the Helsinki metropolitan area, 10% of the adult population has been diagnosed by a doctor. It is therefore necessary to find ways to take a step towards treatment and to reduce the amount of allergy. The very early childhood education project “Nature step to wellbeing” is just what happens. Allergies and asthma are part of the so-called non-infectious inflammatory diseases that are increasing everywhere in a rapidly urbanizing world. That is why there is a need for new thinking that combines the perspectives of both public health and the natural environment.

Project Manager Esh Erja Tommila talks about the Allergy Program Training Project: “Time has been ripe for the Allergy Program and the Change. Work has been facilitated by clear goals and key messages, as well as good cooperation with regional experts and the Alliance for Allergy and Asthma, as well as those responsible for communicating with the Respiratory Association. At the end of the allergy program, over 23,000 health care professionals have participated in this long training project. It’s a staggering amount, ”says Tommila and continues:“ The vast majority of educated people say their attitude and way of thinking about changed allergies. Just under 1% of professionals still advise pregnant and breastfeeding prophylactic allergies. The change has been big;
